NEWS RELEASE
Date: October 11, 2006
Several weeks ago, a Letter to the Editor appeared in the News Times from a Lincoln County Jail inmate. The letter mentioned the need for books to improve the current Jail Library inventory. Within days of that story, a steady stream of books began to fill the Jail lobby and have continued as recently as a few days ago. More than 2,000 books have been received since that letter.
Jessie Welke serves as our receptionist who answers the hundreds of daily phone calls, greets visitors to our jail, and schedules visitations with inmates. Among other duties, Jessie also serves as our censor for printed material donated to the jail library.
All books are examined for condition, content, and contraband. Jessie follows a rating guideline of “G” for General Audiences. Books containing inappropriate material are either donated to another organization such as the hospital and My Sister’s Place or destroyed if the books are in poor condition.
Thank you to all who donated books. We truly appreciate the support, kindness, and generosity of our citizens.
