Summary:
On October 5, 2006 at about 2:58 a.m. while on a traffic stop at the Shell Gas Station in Newport, Oregon Deputy Cummings observed a tractor trailer vehicle turn south onto Hwy 101 from Hwy 20 with the trailer on fire.
Deputy Cummings and Deputy Bruster from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office stopped the tractor trailer on Hwy 101 near SW Alder St. Deputy Cummings noticed the rear axles on both sides of the trailer were engulfed in flames. Deputy Cummings quickly retrieved a fire extinguisher from his patrol vehicle and was able to successfully extinquish the flames.
The tractor trailer, belonging to Segerson and Kurth Trucking of Otis, Oregon was being operated by Ivan C. Torres, age 43 of Florence, Oregon.
Newport Fire Department responded to the scene along with Officers from the Newport Police Department.
No citations were issued.
