Summary:
On July 18, 2006 Lincoln County Sheriff's Sergeant Adam Shanks responded to a report of a single vehicle traffic crash near mile post 3 on South Beaver Creek Road north of Waldport, Oregon. Upon arrival at the scene, Sergeant Shanks learned that a 1993 white Ford Ranger pickup, occupied by three subjects, was traveling southbound on South Beaver Creek Road when it failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and lost control on the gravel shoulder. The vehicle crossed back over both lanes of travel and came to rest in a large ditch on the opposite side of the road. Sergeant Shanks contacted Leon J. Moline, age 25, of Waldport, Oregon, who was reported to be the driver of the vehicle at the time of the crash. Sergeant Shanks observed signs of impairment while talking with Mr. Moline.
Mr. Moline was transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport for injuries substained in the crash. Deputy Cummings contacted Mr. Moline at the hospital and conducted a DUII investigation. Mr. Moline was arrested for DUII and cited and released at the hospital.
Further investigation revealed one of the passengers in the vehicle was the actual driver at the time of the crash, not Mr. Moline. Deputy Cummings and Sergeant Shanks later contacted James R. Greene, age 52, of Waldport, Oregon at his residence who admitted to being the driver when the crash occurred. Mr. Greene was arrested for Assault III and Reckless Driving and was cited and released.
