Summary:
On June 29, 2006 at about 11:25 PM, a Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy responded to a reported assault of two people in the Lincoln Beach area. The investigation revealed that Daniel Winston Nelson, 45 years of age, had assaulted and strangled his daughter and her boyfriend about 30 minutes prior. Both victims were determined to have been living at Nelson's residence at the time of the assaults. Several deputies made contact with Nelson at his residence and took him into custody without incident. Nelson was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail on two counts of Assault IV and two counts of Strangulation. His bail was set at $30,000.00.
On June 30, 2006, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office conducted a follow up investigation for a reported animal abuse that had occurred at the Nelson Residence during the alercation from the night before. Deputy Eric Gulbranson, with the assistance of Lincoln County Sheriff's Animal Control Officer Jackie Becksted, conducted an investigation and determined an adult female cat and two kittens had been physically injured by Nelson. One of the kittens died as a result of the injuries. The other kitten, along with the adult mother cat, was transported to a local veternarian for treatment of serious injuries.
Deputy Gulbranson subsequently contacted Daniel Nelson at the Lincoln County Jail and arrested him for three additional counts of Aggravated Animal Abuse I. The bail for the three additional charges was set at $75,000.00.
