Obtain an Alarm Permit
In 1983, Lincoln County passed the Public Safety Alarm Ordinance. The ordinance requires that every
alarm user obtain a permit for each alarm system in the unincorporated areas of Lincoln County and the city
of Waldport. The fee for an alarm permit is $45.00 for new users and $10.00 per year for renewals.
The purpose of the alarm ordinance is to discourage false alarms and
allow deputies to spend more time providing public safety services. In
2005, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office had approximately 400 valid
permits on file and deputies responded to approximately 474 alarm calls.
Approximately 99% of all alarm calls are false alarms. Fines and
penalties are assessed for third and all subsequent false alarm responses at
one location.
In order to reduce the chances of a false alarm, please
be sure that your alarm system is maintained on a regular basis, is in
good working order, and that all who have access to the alarm system
know how to use it properly.
